There are many secluded spots to camp on Yorke Peninsula, with 19 sites designated as campgrounds by Yorke Peninsula Council.  A permit is required to camp at these places, with the permit transferable between all 19 campgrounds.  The permit costs $10 per night, $50 per week, $150 per month, or $500 per year, with generous discounts for local rate payers.

Permits can also be obtained from Yorke Peninsula Visitor Centre 7 days a week at 29 Main Street Minlaton, or by phoning 1800 202 445.  Permits can also be obtained during business hours at any of the Council offices in Maitland, Minlaton, Yorketown and Warooka. 

The Gap, Burners Beach and Gleesons Landing camping areas have toilet facilities. Gleesons Landing also has a water pump available for the use of bathing and washing, however the water is not fit for drinking.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you are aware of fire regulations and any bans in place.

1. The Gap: 34o14'06.5"S / 137o30'06.6"E

Located on the north west coast of the peninsula, 15 kilometres north of Balgowan - access from Spencer Highway just south of Weetulta or along coastal track from Balgowan - beach launching - BYO water and firewood – toilet facilities available - gas/fuel stoves preferred – good beach for kids – beach fishing for tommies and gar – no shade – dogs allowed on a lead  

2. The Bamboos: 34o15'10.0"S / 137o30'12.7"E 

Located on the north west coast of the peninsula, 12 kilometres north of Balgowan - access via coastal track from Balgowan - beach launch - BYO water and firewood - gas/fuel stoves preferred - patchy mobile phone reception - no shade – dogs allowed on a lead – access not suitable for larger caravans and motorhomes - access track can get overgrown and sandy – no facilities 

3. Tiparra Rocks: 34o15'50.4"S / 137o30'05.1"E 

Located on the north west coast of the Yorke Peninsula, 8 kilometres north of Balgowan - access via coastal track from Balgowan - beach launch – good snorkelling - BYO water and firewood - gas/fuel stoves preferred – no shade – dogs allowed on a lead – access not suitable for larger caravans and motorhomes - access track can get overgrown and sandy

4. Wauraltee Beach: 34o35'10.8"S / 137o30'44.0"E 

Situated on the west coast of the Peninsula, 17 kilometres south of Port Victoria on Wauraltee Beach Road - BYO water and firewood – patchy mobile phone reception - no shade – dogs allowed on a lead – no facilities – road in is suitable to conventional vehicles and caravans  

5. Barker Rocks: 34o42'54.9"S / 137o29'17.5"E 

Situated on the west coast of the Peninsula, 12 kilometres north-west of Minlaton, on Barkers Rocks Road - BYO water and firewood – dogs allowed on a lead – 5 kilometre walking trail to Port Rickaby – good fishing from rocks - no shade – no facilities - there are two camping areas and one day use car park

6. Port Minlacowie: 34o49'58.1"S / 137o27'35.5"E 

Located on the western coast of the Peninsula, 650 m north of Minlacowie Road – access via Beegoodyewells Road – beach launch available just north of camp ground – BYO water and firewood – gas/fuel stoves preferred – dogs allowed on a lead

7. Len Barker Reserve: 34o55'14.1"S / 137o18'04.9"E 

Located on North Coast Road about half way between Point Turton and Point Souttar, near the junction of North Coast Road and West Cowie Road - BYO water and firewood - gas/fuel stoves preferred - camping area fenced at either end - dogs allowed on a lead

8. Burners Beach: 34o54'00.2"S / 137o14'39.7"E 

Situated on the north coast of the foot on Point Souttar Road, 12 kilometres west of Point Turton - follow the track left leading away from Point Souttar beach towards Leven Beach - toilet facilities available but take toilet paper - natural boat ramp - snorkeling fun - BYO water and firewood – no mobile phone reception – dogs allowed on a lead – no shade – suitable for conventional vehicles and smaller caravans with care - camping also available on the right hand track towards Point Souttar and the boat ramp - suitable for smaller camper trailers only

9. Gravel Bay34o55'55.8"S / 136o59'57.9"E 

Located on the west coast of the foot on Berry Bay Road, 18 kilometres west of Corny Point, via Light House Road - camping permitted on the coastal reserve, at bottom of cliff - BYO water and firewood – no mobile phone reception – dogs allowed on lead - no shade – no facilities – 4WD only - NO CAMPING PERMITTED IN THE BERRY BAY CAR PARK AREAS

10. Swincer Rocks: 34o58'15.9"S / 136o58'14.7"E 

Located on the west coast of the foot on Wurlie Road, 41 kilometres west of Warooka - BYO water and firewood – no shade – suitable for conventional vehicles with care – often garfish and squid off rocks – good snorkelling – no mobile phone reception – no facilities – dogs allowed on a lead

11. Gleesons Landing: 35o00'20.2"S / 136o57'56.8"E 

Located on the west coast of the foot, 19 kilometres south west of Corny Point - access off Corny Point to Marion Bay Road - toilet facilities available – four wheel drive beach launch for boats - BYO water and firewood - water pump available for bathing and washing but not fit for drinking – little shade – suitable for conventional vehicles – close to surf beaches - good beach fishing - no mobile phone reception - dogs allowed on a lead - many small camping areas as well as areas suitable for groups - rubbish and recycling bins provided

12. Daly Head: 35o01'26.1"S / 136o56'23.8"E 

Located on the west coast of the foot, approximately 25 kilometres south of Corny Point - access via Marion Bay Road and Daly Head Road - suitable for conventional vehicle - BYO water and firewood - Walk the Yorke shelter located here (shared use), stairs and boardwalk to beach - part of National Surfing Reserve, close to surf beaches - no mobile phone reception - dogs allowed on a lead - approximately 36 large camping areas

13. Foul Bay Boat Ramp: 35o12'35.1"S / 137o11'21.9"E 

Located on the south coast, 1 kilometre southwest of Foul Bay - access via Yorke Highway onto Hundred Line Road, turn left onto South Coast Road, campground is located near the boat ramp - BYO water and firewood - gas/fuel stoves preferred - dogs allowed on a lead

14. Foul Bay: 35o10'46.3"S / 137o12'40.0"E 

Located on the south coast of the Peninsula, 39 kilometres south west of Warooka - access via Happy Valley Road - BYO water and firewood – no facilities – dogs allowed on a lead - suitable for conventional vehicles and larger caravans

15. Sturt Bay: 35o06'28.0"S / 137o24'08.7"E 

Located on the south coast of the Peninsula, 13 kilometres south of Warooka - access via Sturt Bay Road - BYO water and firewood – limited shade – no mobile phone reception – dogs allowed on a lead – no facilities - track is sandy and not suitable for large caravans and motorhomes

16. Mozzie Flat: 35o06'41.9"S / 137o29'55.0"E 

Located on the south coast of the Peninsula, 23 kilometres south of Warooka and 17 kilometres south of Yorketown - BYO water and firewood – some shade – suited to off road vehicles and camper vans only - boardwalk to sandy beach – patchy mobile phone reception – dogs allowed on a lead – no facilities - two small camping areas

17. Goldsmith's Beach: 35o08'51.6"S / 137o41'13.0"E 

Located on the south coast of the Peninsula, 10 kilometres southwest of Edithburgh - access via Troubridge point Drive near corner of Heel Road - popular fishing spot - BYO water and firewood – some shade – suitable for all vehicles – weak mobile phone signal – dogs allowed on lead – no facilities

18. Wattle Point: 35o08'19.0"S / 137o42'08.2"E 

Located on Heel Road, 8 kilometres southwest of Edithburgh - access via Wattle Point Road onto Heel Road - BYO water and firewood - gas fuel stove preferred - rubbish collections during holidays only - no facilities - dogs allowed on lead - suitable for all vehicles

19. Parara: 34o46'05"S / 137o90'91"E  

Situated 4 kilometres south of Ardrossan, access from Yorke HIghway via Parara Road - camp sites are located south of whale memorial - popular crabbing and fishing spot - BYO water and firewood - gas/fuel stoves preferred - dogs allowed on a lead
